Resolutions
Resolutions are one of the most impactful ways nursing students can advocate for change, bring awareness to important healthcare issues, and influence the future direction of the nursing profession.
Through the resolution process, students have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, engage in professional advocacy, and contribute ideas that can shape organizational priorities and future policy initiatives within ANSA and beyond.
What Are Resolutions?
Resolutions are position papers that address important issues affecting nursing students, healthcare, nursing education, and public health. They help direct the priorities, policies, and actions of organizations such as the Arkansas Nursing Students’ Association (ANSA) and the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA).
Through resolutions, nursing students have the opportunity to bring awareness, recognition, advocacy, and meaningful discussion to issues they are passionate about — meaning that YOU can help influence the future of the nursing profession.

Writing a resolution begins with identifying an issue that impacts nursing students, healthcare, nursing education, patient care, or public health. Strong resolutions focus on topics that are relevant, research-supported, and meaningful to the nursing profession.
Resolutions typically include:
-
A clear title identifying the issue
-
Background information and supporting evidence
-
“Whereas” statements explaining the problem or concern
-
“Resolved” statements proposing actions, recommendations, or advocacy efforts
Students are encouraged to research their topic thoroughly and consider how their resolution could increase awareness, inspire advocacy, or contribute to organizational and professional change.
For additional guidance, formatting examples, and sample resolutions, students are encouraged to review resources provided by the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) and speak with faculty advisors or ANSA leadership for support throughout the writing process.
